The joys of risk management.

Two fellows from Risk Management down at the College were up at camp the last two days, inspecting things. At the top of the list: lead build-up at the rifle range. Apparently, you can just reach down and scoop up handfuls of lead and lead arsenic anywhere around the target stands. Fun times for the kiddies. Other concerns: the paint shack, also known as the bunker, complete with barrels of both paint and thinner at various stages of fossilization. Combine this with abysmal ventilation and good drainage. Hello Superfund. All in a day’s work for the tireless employees of Risk Management.

So, one might reasonably expect Risk Management guys to be the ultimate kill-joys. One might imagine an accountant, a corporate lawyer, an insurance agent, and a playground supervisor at recess in third grade, all rolled into one. One might be wrong. These are two of the funniest guys I’ve met in a while, and they bring a razor wit and dry humor to what could easily be a grudging pariah-hood. They also make for great dinner conversation. Said one, They don’t pay us to be popular. [...pregnant pause...] In fact, good thing, too. Their favorite recent case: Yeah, we shut down that skydiving club back on campus pretty fast. Didn’t have to think about that one very long. Best quote of the evening: You can wrestle a wild boar in the woods, for all I care. Just don’t ask me to insure you.
