Just friends.
And then one day you think you might have possibly found it. There it is, hanging out over the edge of the cliff, seemingly just out of reach. You consider the situation, try and judge the distance. You might just be able to make it. You lean out over the abyss. Not quite. You reconsider, and begin to prepare. You anchor yourself to a tree and try again, leaning out over nothingness, reaching for it, stretching, straining, your eyes screwed shut so tight and yet you can see it right there just beyond your grasp, and you stretch yourself further than you thought you could.
And you feel the ground beneath you begin to give way, just a slippage of earth that warns you that no, this isn’t it after all, because you cannot reach and your foundation will not hold. So you step back from the cliff. Safe. You will continue looking, because that is all you know how to do.
And you wonder, what will you do with so many friends, and yet nobody to really talk to?
