Newness.

I did some site maintenance today. The main site, “eykd.net”:http://eykd.net is now managed and rendered by “Wordpress”:http://wordpress.org. The main site, “newstalk”:http://newstalk.eykd.net and “subverbia”:http://subverbia.eykd.net now all share the same stylesheet, which makes it much easier to make small changes to the overall look of the site, and allows me to finally unify the site’s design. Unfortunately, wordpress doesn’t support multiple sites, so some hacking has been required (well, I only had to hard-code the stylesheet links instead of dynamically generating them–not very complicated, actually, just modifying one line of code in the template).

Also, all three sites validate again. Some crufty html had slipped in to each of them, and the “w3’s validator”:http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://newstalk.eykd.net was swearing at me profusely.

Why all this work? Well, the whole eykd.net side of the site was in static html files, which is, like, soooo 90’s. Plus, it was annoying to make changes to them, which is why important things like my resumes were never getting updated. Okay, so actually the resumes are gone right now, but they’ll be back, and better than ever before.

For those of you wondering what else I’m up to, I’ll be sending out one of my semi-annual mass emails soon, which I’ll cross-post here. For the impatient, I’ve mainly been working, reading, and hacking around with Python and PHP code. I’ve been in a hackish mode all around recently, which accounts for my lack of posting here of late. Expect to see some more changes around here, and if you have any opinions, please do drop me a line.

Update: “Resumes are up”:http://eykd.net/who/resumeindex. Credit goes to “Stevarino”:http://stevarino.com for his “faked folders plugin”:http://stevarino.com/wp/faked-folders/.
