Heading somewhere.

I’m in the Portland airport right this minute, just inside the security checkpoint, at the Starbucks. There are signs around here that say “free wi-fi” but I’m not picking up a signal, so I must be in a dead zone. If I pick up a signal soon, I’ll post this now. If not, I’ll post it when I get back to the house.

Let me just say that PDX is yet another bullet point on my “Things I Love About the Northwest” list. This is the most chill airport I’ve ever seen in my life. People are moving at an easy pace, holding small conversations in conversational tones. The employees appear to be happy, as they smile and joke. The security checkpoint is friendly, thorough and efficient. There are professional piano players scattered about the terminal, playing soft music in a variety of styles. O’Hare and Midway should start taking notes if they haven’t already–this isn’t just a place you pass through and leave as quickly as you can. I frankly wouldn’t mind being here for awhile.

In fact, I will be here a while, since I got here two hours early as they recommend, though this airport is so efficiently run, and the traffic is light enough today, that I got through check-in and security in under 15 minutes, with time to go to the bathroom in-between. So now I get some time to chill, in a very chill place. First though, I’m going to go explore, and hopefully find a signal. TTFN.
