Adventures in Chicagoland.

My good friend and adopted sister¹ Eleanor arrived Tuesday night for a visit. I picked her up at O’Hare with surprising little trouble (I don’t know what we would have done without instant flight status reports and cell phones, but it wouldn’t have been quite so easy). She planned to stay that night at a friend’s place in Oak Park, which neither of us had been to, though she had directions from the highway. With a map that I had bought not half-an-hour before, we navigated our way with ease. The hardest task of the evening was actually finding a good place to have dinner and catch up on each other’s lives. We talked about life and grad school and New York City, where she’s just completed her first term studying Philosophy. Then we returned to the house, to which her friend Heather was just about to return. There, we discovered a small colony of Wheaton College refugees still banded together after all these (one or two) years. I stayed there talking until the late evening, finally deciding I better get back home to Wheaton before the Thai Iced Coffee wore off. I returned with no incident.
