Walking together.

And then one day you’re just walking along the road, minding your own business, doing your best to ignore all the interesting things one might see (but never reach) over there, when she comes up alongside you and starts to walk with you. Before you even realize what’s happening, the two of you have fallen into easy conversation. Soon you both agree that the best idea is to continue on the next leg of this journey together.

As you go on, covering the days and the miles, the landscape takes on new hues. Details emerge that you had never thought to notice before, and now she is there to see it too and confirm it. Beauty strikes from the most unlikely places, for shared experiences fill out with beauty while solitary experience can only press on forward through in a straight line, or sit and contemplate a single, solitary point.

Walking together brings new beauty, new joy, new challenge to the simple arts of living. Now, if you only just had a map.

    Susan:

Will you be my love, and may I be yours? May we walk together in the cool crisp autumn sunset, stomp through leaves of gold and apple red in quiet comfort? May we find a lighted bench to sit hand-in-hand and speak of the grand old tree that stoops broken and worn on a sidewalk near a busy street? May we lean over coffee mugs–yours black, mine a creamy hazelnut–contemplating Dickens, Tolkien and Lewis while the rain streams down from heaven–tears of joy perhaps from a gracious God who loves what he is creating between us? May we walk along crowded streets filled with the hustle and bustle of the season of Peace and find that in giving of ourselves to others, our love grows stronger? May we share our hearts, our dreams, our tears and know that in a word, in a touch, in a glance, we are discovering the very color of each other’s eyes? And as we look into those eyes, may we find a love without fear? (Will you be my love, and may I be yours?)
